Our innovative approach to alcohol and addiction treatment, and treatment for activity addictions such as gambling or video games, is non-12-step and non-disease model.

Business is easier and more profitable with fixed lengths of stay, one-size-fits-all, group-oriented programs, and under-qualified, low-paid staff as the primary service providers, but the quality of care suffers. We are owned and operated by psychologists and other health professionals. We know how to place clinical care first. Addiction is a practical problem requiring practical solutions. Every road to recovery is different.

Practical Recovery was founded in 1985 by Dr. Tom Horvath, author of Sex, Drugs, Gambling & Chocolate: A Workbook for Overcoming Addictions, President 1995-2008 of SMART Recovery (smartrecovery.org) and President 1999-2000 of the American Psychological Association’s Division on Addictions (apa.org, Division 50), the world’s largest organization of addiction psychologists.
