For some individuals a comprehensive and extended aftercare program, following alcohol and drug rehab, is advisable. If you stay four months or longer, extended aftercare can include attendance at a lifestyle change program offered by the wellness center of a local hospital. 

 

The wellness center program focuses on mind, body and spirit, and includes stress management classes, a healthy cooking school, exercise (based on your individual ability), nutrition prescriptions, group support, yoga and meditation. Studies show that exercise, nutrition, stress management and healthy relationships can improve immune function, mood, energy, mental clarity and other factors associated with good health and disease prevention, which in turn will help prevent addiction relapse. Prior to beginning the lifestyle change program, the results of state-of-the-art cardiovascular scans, advanced lipid testing and other screenings help guide the creation of your program, and help you understand your current state of health.  If you smoke you may do so in designated outside smoking areas.

 

On Mon-Wed-Fri you attend the wellness center about six hours each day, approximately 9am to 3pm.  On Tue-Thu you attend outpatient addiction treatment sessions at Practical Recovery, with additional sessions at other times if desired. You may live at the Practical Recovery sober living home (www.reunionsandiego.com), or in other accommodations.
