Sylvia Vella, Psy.D., LMFT Consulting Psychologist

I learned about Practical Recovery from a colleague and became captivated when I saw the positive results from clients who attended the program. I became a part of the team in January 2015. Prior to that, I counseled members of the US Navy and Marines at Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar. I worked with enlisted personnel, civilians, and their families. I received my doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University and continue to teach Law & Ethics during the fall semesters. The most important aspect of my job is to help clients see that each of them hold the power to change to have a better tomorrow. I seek to have clients know and understand that a life, free of addictions, is possible and achievable. The environment at Practical Recovery allows for personal growth, and self reflection to aid in the process of recovery. Each staff member is dedicated to helping clients achieve their full potential and are committed to the philosophies governed by Smart Recovery. I love traveling, cooking, photography, and most of all my family. I enjoy hiking and taking pictures. I am a firm believer…you can achieve anything in life that you set yourself out to do…you simply must want it bad enough to try.
